Miller Lighting Design for Ziehler Playground Wins Three Awards

We are honored to have received three awards for the lighting design on Ziehler Playground and Recreation Center! Many thanks for the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES)–Philadelphia Section for the Certificate of Merit, Interior Lighting Design; Illuminating Engineering Society (IES)–Philadelphia Section for the Certificate of Merit, Exterior Lighting Design; and the Light Justice Now Certificate of Merit!

The $7.5 million project features a lighting system specifically designed with aesthetics and functionality usually seen on high-end projects with the concept being that everyone deserves good lighting. Specification grade fixtures, warmer color temperature, whimsical touches such as RGB, LED strip lights in each window, decorative pendants, dimming capabilities, track lighting, and park-like pathway lighting instill a welcoming environment with the goal of creating a clean, green, and safe space for recreation in the community. New sports field lighting allows for more organizations to practice and play on the fields.

Our mantras of Lighting design for everyone™ and Champagne lighting on a beer budget™ guided the design to be thoughtfully and artistically focused on the health and well-being of everyone using the space; it’s all about the choices we make as designers and architects regardless of budget. Use a well crafted lighting design of the neighborhood assets, such as a recreation center, to create visual stimulation and interest in an often forgotten treasure thereby positively changing the perception of an area.
